Zanzibar Serena Inn
Zanzibar Serena Inn
Zanzibar Serena Hotel opened in 1997. The team restored two historic buildings to bring it to life: the 19th-century Extelcoms building and the 18th-century Chinese doctor’s residence. They protected the original architecture at every step, and they repaired decorative details with great care. As a result, the hotel still carries the character and charm of the past.
Today, the interior and exterior spaces show a blend of early 19th-century influences. This mix reflects the style of the Sultans of Zanzibar. Because of this, guests can experience the history and culture of the island the moment they arrive. They also connect with the timeless look now known as the “Zanzibar Style.”
In addition, the hotel plays an important role in the look and feel of Stone Town. Its careful restoration helped preserve the area’s unique identity. For this reason, it contributed to UNESCO’s decision to name Stone Town a World Heritage Site.
Accommodation options
An ambience of relaxed sophistication has been created in each of the 51 rooms and suites, with wood-framed louver doors opening onto private balconies with uninterrupted Indian Ocean views. Cool, white walls, high-ceilings and crisp royal blues and whites give a sense of Zanzibar coastal serenity and charm.
As part of the visual fabric of Stone Town, this respectful transformation was one of the factors that led to the declaration by UNESCO of Stone Town as a World Heritage site.
